Eliminate Pop-ups

Here are easy and no-cost ways to eliminate what has become
a daily annoyance for many people.

Those persistent pop-ups can come in two forms:

1.  Windows Messenger Pop-ups

2.  General Web page Pop-ups

Windows Messenger Pop-ups

These are the annoying grey boxes that pop up on your screen anytime your computer is connected to the Internet.  It is not "officially" spam because it does not travel via email.  The boxes look something like  this:

You can only receive these if you have WindowsXP, Windows2000 or Windows NT.  (Those of you who are still using Windows95, Windows98 or Windows ME are spared from this problem.) The advertisers are exploiting the built-in Microsoft technology in these newer versions of Windows in order to put their messages "in your face" without you even having to open their email message!

You can, however, easily turn off your Windows' ability to view these messages and thus free yourself from this daily annoyance.  Simply follow these steps:

In Windows XP:
(1) Select "Start"
(2) Choose "Control Panel"
(3) Choose "Administrative Tools"
(4) Choose "Services"
(5) Right-click on "Messenger"
(6) Select "Stop"
To permanently disable Messenger:
(7) Right click "Messenger"
(8) Select "Properties"
(9) Change "Startup Type" to
     "Disabled" and click "OK"

In Windows 2000:
(1) Select "Start"
(2) Choose "Programs"
(3) Choose "Administrative Tools"
(4) Choose "Services"
(5) Right-click "Messenger"
(6) Select "Properties"

(7) Click "Stop"
To permanently disable Messenger:
(8) Change "Startup Type" to "Disabled" and click "OK"
Please keep in mind that Windows Messenger is not related to
and has nothing to do with AOL's or Yahoo's Instant Messenger

Web Page Pop-ups
Most of these pop-ups are the result of a JavaScript running on a website that automatically opens a new window with advertising. The new window "pop-ups" over the screen that you are reading making it impossible to ignore.
We are offering a free download of  "
Pop-up Zapper" by URL.biz. Pop-up Zapper This program does what its name implies.  It sits in your system tray and, if you'd like, will even give you an audible alert every time it blocks a pop-up.  If you are ever at a website where you actually want to view the pop-up (ex. some eBay pages or websites that open a link in a new window), simply hold down your "CONTROL" button and the Popup Zapper will become temporarily disabled and allow the pop-up to come through.

To begin a download of this program, click on the words: "Popup Zapper".

Note 1: This download file was scanned before it was placed on our server and was found to be "virus-free" with the 2004 version of Norton's Anti-Virus software.
Note 2:
You will need to "unzip"  this file with compression software. If you don't already have one, you can download a free evaluation version at www.winzip.com

Another easy way to block web pop-ups is to install the Google toolbar
Google on your web browser.  This will only work if you have Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. Another added benefit of the Google toolbar is that it makes web searches with Google a very easy thing to do. For more information and to download, click on the Google logo.
